Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have replacement coverage on my homeowner insurance contents?

If you have a Homeowner Standard or Plus form with Erie Mutual then yes, you have replacement cost coverage on your contents. However, you are entitled to replacement cost coverage only when you actually replace the damaged item(s). Until you replace the item you are given an actual cash value amount, which is a depreciated amount of the replacement cost based on the age and condition of the item at the time of loss. Shopping to replace will ensure replacement cost puts your contents back just the way they were before the loss. We understand items lost due to a claim are important, we make sure you have them replaced properly, and as quickly as possible.

Is flooding covered under my insurance policy?

We know flooding has become a major concern almost everywhere these days. However, only a qualified risk will include flood coverage under an Erie Mutual policy. Beginning August 1, 2016, only those risk locations which already qualified and purchased sewer backup coverage, and are now identified to be in low-risk flood areas were automatically provided with the insured peril of flood under Comprehensive Water Protection coverage. If your property qualifies for coverage our claims department will have your home clean and dry in no time!

Do you forgive my first auto accident so that my rates do not increase?

Yes, but only to those drivers who both qualify and purchase the accident forgiveness coverage under your Erie Mutual auto policy noted as FMCF01, referred to as Protection Plus. This optional coverage allows an eligible principal operator to maintain their driving record after one at-fault accident as a result of ownership, use or operation of a vehicle. We encourage and promote safe driving, but we also know things happen regardless of years of driving experience. We highly recommend this coverage to all drivers who qualify.

I know others who pay less for auto insurance, what factors determine my rate?

Whoever said insurance was easy to understand? We realize it’s not. Rating classes vary under auto insurance policies due to the different risk exposures of each class. Your rates are based on analytical data collected in regard to frequency and severity and premiums are calculated accordingly. Rate classes are most affected by factors including your age, marital status, and use of a vehicle and are amended as circumstances change over time. Our rates are very competitive, but the extra value is what keeps our members happy.
